![]() HomeLasipalatsi- Helsinki´s marvelHISTORY Designed by three architect students, Kokko, Rewell and Riihimäki, the Lasipalatsi building represents a vibrant interpretation of functionalism. Construction, which began in the summer of 1935, was partially finished already in the same year. Upon its completion in 1936, this temprorary bazaar building was a sight to see, drawing people even from further afield to admire it´s spacious and light-filled interiors. Impressive neon lights and signs have formed a colourful part of Lasipalatsi right from the start. The Lasipalatsi building was initially intended as a temprorary space with the view of Helsinki preparing for the Summer Olympic Games in the early 1940´s. This state of impermanence prevailed for more than 60 years. Based on the plans of Architects Pia Ilonen and Minna Lukander and Interior Architect Martti Lukander from Alli Architects Ltd, restoration began at the end of 1996 and was finished in the autumn of 1998. Lasipalatsi regained it´s 1930´s splendour and one again rose into a prime social hot spot and place of interest in Helsinki. FINNISH GASTRONOMIC FLAIR AT ITS BEST Lasipalatsi Restaurant offers first class, pure raw materials and Finnish gastronomic exellence in an authentic 1930´s functionalist setting.
